Rory McIlroy's Masters Champions Dinner menu includes bacon-wrapped dates, Wagyu filet mignon, and sticky toffee pudding...

Rory McIlroy is feeling positive about his recovery from a back injury and is looking forward to defending his Masters title in three weeks. He had a rough patch with the injury, which forced him to withdraw from the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but he's pleased with how his body has responded to treatment.

McIlroy's preparation for the Masters has been impacted by the injury, but he's excited to get back on the course. He finished T46 at The Players Championship, citing issues with his putting, but is optimistic about his chances at Augusta National. Last year, he won his fifth major title at the Masters, completing a career Grand Slam.

“This is going to be the first time I drive down Magnolia Lane (as champion) and it's all going to be about enjoying my week and the perks that come along with being a Masters champion,” McIlroy said on Wednesday in a conference call.

The perks include a champion's parking spot, a spot in the champions' locker room, and hosting the Champions Dinner two days before the tournament starts on April 9th. Sounds like a big deal.

“I know I get to go back to the Masters for the rest of my life,” McIlroy said. “That's quite a freeing feeling.”

Rory McIlroy, the world number two, is feeling positive about his back injury recovery and is focused on defending his Masters title. He had withdrawn from the Arnold Palmer Invitational two weeks ago due to the injury, but says he's now ready to go.

McIlroy had a strong start to the year, finishing third at Dubai in January and sharing second place at the PGA Tour Genesis Invitational last month. His withdrawal from the Arnold Palmer Invitational raised concerns, but he's put in the work to recover and is excited for the Masters.

“Prep has run pretty well,” McIlroy said. “Had that little back issue at Bay Hill, which threw a spanner in the works, but I've recovered from that pretty quickly.

“I'm really pleased with how my body responded to that little setback.”

Rory McIlroy finished T46 at The Players Championship, and now he's taking a break until the Masters at Augusta National. He's prioritizing his recovery from a back injury and is excited to defend his title.

“I'm really excited to get to the week of the Masters and defend,” McIlroy said. “I know defending is a pretty rare feat and I would like to do that for sure.”

The last player to defend their Masters title successfully was Tiger Woods in 2001-2002. Other legends like Jack Nicklaus and Nick Faldo have also achieved this feat. Now, Rory McIlroy is aiming to join this elite group.

Rory McIlroy's Menu for Masters Champions Dinner

Rory McIlroy's menu for the April 7th Masters Champions Dinner is a blend of personal favorites and Georgia delights. The appetizers include:

Bacon-Wrapped Dates with Goat Cheese: a family recipe from his mother, Rosie

Rock Shrimp Tempura: a crowd-pleaser with creamy spicy sauce

Georgia Peach and Ricotta Flatbread: a nod to local Georgia flavors with hot honey and basil

Grilled Elk Sliders: a good-luck charm, inspired by his elk consumption before last year's Masters win

The first course features Yellowfin Tuna Carpaccio, inspired by his favorite NYC restaurant, Le Bernardin. Main courses include Wagyu Filet Mignon or Seared Salmon, accompanied by traditional Irish champ and sautéed veggies. Dessert is Sticky Toffee Pudding with vanilla ice cream and warm toffee sauce.

“In the buildup to the Masters last year, I was eating a lot of elk,” McIlroy said.

For his first course, McIlroy's serving yellowfin tuna carpaccio, inspired by his favorite NYC restaurant, Le Bernardin.

“Every time we go to that restaurant, that's the one thing I have to have,” McIlroy said.

Main courses include Wagyu filet mignon or seared salmon, paired with Irish champ, Brussels sprouts, carrots, and Vidalia onion rings. For dessert, sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and warm toffee sauce.

“Then my favourite part of the menu is you get access to the wonderful wine cellar at Augusta National,” McIlroy said.

McIlroy's wine picks include champagne and a 2022 Domaine Leflaive Batard Montrachet, a premium white Burgundy.

“It's the first-ever white wine that I actually liked,” he said. “To be able to serve that is something that's sort of important to me.”

There's also a 1990 Chateau Lafite Rothschild - “That's the wine that I drank the night that I won the Masters” - and a 1989 Chateau D'Yquem dessert wine that he called “liquid gold.”

“It would be pretty presumptuous to have a menu in your head before you actually win the tournament,” McIlroy said. “But I always thought about: If I win the Masters one day, what would I want it to look like? What would I like to serve?”

“I tried to be pretty thoughtful with it, tried to incorporate some of the things that I like and some little personal touches along the way, but at the same time trying to put together a good enough menu that everybody would enjoy as well.”
