The Colorado Avalanche just bolstered their lineup by acquiring center Nicolas Roy from the Toronto Maple Leafs in a trade deal. In exchange, the Maple Leafs received a 2026 conditional fifth-round pick and a 2027 conditional first-round pick.

Nicolas Roy, a 29-year-old Canadian forward, has been a solid player for the Maple Leafs. This move could give the Avalanche a boost in their quest for a playoff spot.

Patrick Roy's struggling lately, with just 1 assist and 0 goals in his last 6 games, earning below a 7.0 rating in each. This season, he's got 5 goals and 15 assists in 59 games.

The 28-year-old had been consistent with Vegas, posting at least 13 goals and 13 assists in each of the past four seasons. He was key in the Marner trade, but adjusting hasn't been easy.

The Maple Leafs are struggling, losing all five games since the Olympic break, and sit 13th in the East with 65 points. Meanwhile, Roy's headed to the top - joining the Avalanche, the NHL's best team with 41-10-9 record and 91 points.

The Avs are on fire, the only team with 40+ wins and 90+ points.

The Colorado Avalanche had a tough first-round exit in the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, losing to the Dallas Stars in seven games. But they've bounced back strong this season, dominating the NHL and looking like prime Stanley Cup contenders. With a 41-10-9 record, they're currently topping the league, six points ahead of the Dallas Stars.
