Liverpool manager Arne Slot insists no added pressure despite dropped points...
Liverpool manager Arne Slot says there's “no added pressure” on his team despite their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. This loss marks the first time Liverpool has lost 10 league games in a season since 2015-16.
Brighton dominated the game, outplaying Liverpool at the Amex Stadium and leaving the champions with just a single point from their last nine available. Slot acknowledged Brighton's strong performance, saying they were the better team in the second half.
Liverpool's fifth-place position seems secure for now, but their recent form has been shaky, allowing teams above and below to close in.
“There is always pressure at Liverpool. On me, on the players. That is completely normal,” Slot told TNT Sports.
"We have qualified for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and the Champions League, but in the league, we need to make sure that in the end, we qualify for the Champions League.
“As much as I dislike us losing here, Brighton away will always be a difficult one as long as they keep bringing in so many good players.
“But there are other games where we should have picked up more points, like last week against Tottenham. That is far more unacceptable than this. But even away at Brighton, a club like Liverpool should be able to get a result.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot acknowledged that his team has struggled to perform after European matches, despite their impressive 4-0 win over Galatasaray in the Champions League. Slot attributed this to various factors, including the physical and mental demands of playing in Europe, saying, “It is clear that we have lost a lot of points after playing in Europe.”
Slot also emphasized that Brighton was the better team in the second half of their 2-1 loss, and his side's injury issues didn't help. The Reds have now lost 10 league games this season, the first time they've hit that mark since 2015-16.
“It is clear that we have lost a lot of points after playing in Europe. I have tried to explain a lot of times already why this is, but we also have to give credit to Brighton. In the second half, they were the better team,” he said.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot is concerned about his team's injury woes, having lost forward Mohamed Salah and goalkeeper Alisson before the game, and striker Hugo Ekitike just a few minutes in. Ekitike's injury, a dead leg, forced him off in tears, while Salah and Alisson are out with separate issues.

Slot expressed his frustration, saying it's a big blow for the team and the player, especially with only eight games left to secure a Champions League spot.
“Him going off and not being able to help the team, it is just a bit of bad luck,” Slot said.
“It is not like he will be out for three months but it was bad enough that he wasn't able to continue. It was a blow for him and a blow for us.”
