Fiorentina did just enough to see off Jagiellonia, setting up a last-16 tie against either Strasbourg...
Fiorentina managed to scrape into the Conference League last 16 despite a nervy performance against Jagiellonia Białystok. They'll be breathing a sigh of relief after Jagiellonia pushed them to the limit.
Jagiellonia Białystok gave it their all, with Bartosz Mazurek scoring a hat-trick in a 4-2 win (5-4 on aggregate) against Fiorentina. Although they lost, Jaga extended their unbeaten away record in the UEFA Conference League to 7 games (W3, D4).
Fiorentina had a comfortable 3-goal cushion from the first leg, but Jagiellonia was determined to cause an upset. La Viola's joint-biggest continental win of the season proved to be a useful advantage.
Fiorentina's advantage was almost cut short within the first five minutes. Afimico Pululu had a chance, but his tame shot went straight at Luca Lezzerini, who made an easy save.
Fiorentina responded well with a positive spell, showing some great attacking play. However, their efforts were disrupted in the 23rd minute when Mazurek scored, capitalizing on a Lezzerini save to guide the ball home at the second attempt.
Jagiellonia Białystok was no stranger to tough challenges, having failed to overturn a first-leg defeat in their previous 5 attempts. But they managed to cut Fiorentina's lead to just one goal at halftime, thanks to a Mazurek goal that deflected off Pietro Comuzzo and looped over Lezzerini.
David de Gea was introduced for the second half, but it wasn't long before he was picking the ball out of the net. A deft pass from Afimico Pululu allowed Mazurek to sweep home from close range, completing his hat-trick and levelling the tie just four minutes after the restart.
Fiorentina made a couple of changes, and Paolo Vanoli's alterations sparked an upturn in their performance after the hour mark. However, clear-cut chances remained elusive for the hosts as they pushed for a winner in the final minutes of the 90.
The game headed to extra time, a turn of events that would've been hard to imagine at kick-off. The intensity was taking its toll on both teams.
Injuries were piling up, and both sides had to make substitutions, but the tie remained on a knife-edge. The first period of extra time ended goalless, leaving everything still to play for.
Fiorentina snatched a late winner as goalkeeper Sławomir Abramowicz's punch allowed Nicolò Fagioli to score from the edge of the box. The half-volley flew past Abramowicz's reach, putting Fiorentina ahead.
Jagiellonia needed a response, but things got worse when substitute Moise Kean scored from a corner. The Italian striker turned the ball home, dealing a blow to Jaga's hopes.
In a remarkable turn of events, David de Gea was deceived by a long-range strike from Jesús Imaz, sparking late hope in the 118th minute. However, it wasn't enough to change the outcome for Jagiellonia.
Jagiellonia's hopes were ultimately dashed as Bernardo Vital received a second yellow for unsportsmanlike behaviour at the death. This sealed Fiorentina's spot in the last 16, ending Jaga's run of three consecutive competitive wins.

Fiorentina did just enough to see off Jagiellonia, setting up a last-16 tie against either Strasbourg or Raków Częstochowa.
Jagiellonia Białystok can take positives from their efforts, especially after reaching the quarter-finals in last season's Conference League. However, they'll be disappointed to be exiting the competition now.
