Ruben Amorim's United Face Tough Test Against Iraola's Bournemouth
Manchester United face Bournemouth at Old Trafford, with Ruben Amorim facing AFCON player departures and injury woes.
“It's frustrating, but at the same time, nobody knows who is going to play, so it's a good thing...”
Ruben Amorim is frustrated with the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for taking some of Manchester United's key players, including midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and forward Tshakwgo Chukwuemeka. United will be without these players for this weekend's game against Bournemouth.
Amorim's side are on a high after beating Wolves 4-3 on Monday, with Bruno Fernandes leading the charge. United are currently fifth in the Premier League, one point behind Crystal Palace, and will be looking to keep their momentum going against Bournemouth.
United have a good record at Old Trafford this season, with four wins, one draw, and two losses from their seven Premier League matches. Amorim is confident his team can get a good result against Bournemouth, despite the absence of some key players.
Team News Update
Kolo Toure provided an update on Manchester City's team news, confirming Rodri is out with a hamstring injury and John Stones is still dealing with a thigh injury.
“(Harry) Maguire is out (Matthijs) De Ligt is out. Ben (Sesko), we have to see if he is available. He had some food poisoning – we have two trainings still.”
On Mason Mount: “We have to look at the way the game was, but he's a very, very smart player, he's really technical. He can balance our team quite well, so he's a very good player.”
On De Ligt’s injury: “I think he has something in his back. I don't know for sure. He finished the game against Crystal Palace, but sometimes he feels pain, and we have to be careful with that.”
Ruben Amorim is facing a tough time with the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) looming, as it will take away some of Manchester United's key players. The United boss is still waiting to hear from the national teams about the availability of his players, including Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui.
Amorim's squad is already depleted with injuries, and the AFCON will only add to his woes. United will lose Mbeumo, Diallo, and Mazraoui to the competition, forcing Amorim to rely on young players like Shea Lacey and Patrick Dorgu.
With the AFCON taking away key players, Amorim will have to make significant changes to his lineup. Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha could get more playing time, and Amorim might have to get creative with his team selection.
“We are still in conversations with the national teams. The game is Monday, they are here and training, but we are preparing all the scenarios for the game.
“I don't know if it's going to be the same situation. It depends on the games, and every national team has an idea of when they want their players. I expect to know today.
“It's frustrating, but at the same time, nobody knows who is going to play, so it's a good thing. We have players to cope with everything. With a long week, you can see a lot of things and work on stuff to prepare for any situation.”
Bournemouth Under Iraola
Ruben Amorim praised Andoni Iraola and his Bournemouth team, acknowledging their strong start to the season. Despite losing four of their last six Premier League games, Amorim believes Bournemouth are a good side and will be tough to beat at home.
Amorim highlighted Iraola's ability to adapt and make changes, and expects his team to put up a strong fight. United will need to be at their best to get a positive result at Old Trafford.
“Special. The way they play the game like a big team, what he is doing for some players. He is improving players, and you can look at that team and think several of their players can play at a high level, so it's an amazing job from the manager.”
