Pep Guardiola Urges Man City Players to Step Up Amid Haaland Dominance
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expresses concern over team's reliance on Erling Haaland for goals, demands more from other players.
“We play to provide Erling with quality and passing but other players have to step up...”
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed concerns that his team relies too heavily on Erling Haaland for goals. Despite Haaland's impressive form, scoring 23 times in 13 games for club and country, Guardiola believes other players need to step up and contribute more to the team's goal tally.
Haaland's double against Everton secured a 2-0 win for Manchester City, briefly propelling them to the top of the Premier League table. However, Guardiola's concerns lie in the team's over-reliance on their star striker, highlighting the need for other players to share the goal-scoring responsibilities.
“We play to provide Erling with quality and passing, but other players have to step up,” Guardiola said. “The chances were clear, and they have to score.” Haaland accounts for 11 of the 17 league goals scored by City this season, underscoring Guardiola's concerns about the team's lack of depth in goal-scoring.
“Really pleased but we cannot rely on just him, we need other players," said Guardiola.
"Wingers, attacking midfielders. They have to make a step-up and score goals.”
This season, Erling Haaland has scored 11 of Manchester City's 17 Premier League goals, highlighting his significant contribution to the team's offense.
“We play to provide Erling with quality and passing but other players have to step up.
“The chances were clear, and they have to score,” said Guardiola.
“At this level, they have to demand themselves. Chances from Savinho and Jeremy (Doku), and Tijjani (Reijnders) - they have to score.
"They have to do it otherwise, we can't do what we want to do.”

Manchester City's four-year reign as Premier League champions came to an end last season, with the team finishing a distant third behind Liverpool and Arsenal in a trophyless campaign.
However, City have turned their fortunes around this season, overcoming a slow start that saw them lose two of their first three Premier League matches. They are now unbeaten in eight games across all competitions, largely thanks to the impressive form of striker Erling Haaland, and are once again contenders for the top prize.
A sweet victory! ✨

“Erling lives for it,” added Guardiola.
“Our delivery of passes has been better, and Erling is our key man right now.”
