Nottingham Forest Captain admits player responsibility in Postecoglou exit

Nottingham Forest captain Ryan Yates admits the players must take some responsibility for Ange Postecoglou's exit after the team's poor start to the season.

“We have to look ourselves in the mirror and dust ourselves down and go again because things in football can change really quickly...”

Nottingham Forest captain Ryan Yates believes the players share some blame for the departure of manager Ange Postecoglou. The club sacked Postecoglou just 20 minutes after their 3-0 home loss to Chelsea on Saturday, ending his 39-day tenure.

Yates acknowledged that while Postecoglou's dismissal was swift, the players' poor performances contributed to the decision. Notably, Postecoglou didn't get to fulfill his post-match media duties, instead heading straight to the team after speaking to the players.

Players Must Share the Blame

“I'll be honest. Ange came in after the game, debriefed the game and then I went out to do some running. I came back and news had broke that he had gone,” Yates told BBC Radio.

“Everybody has to take responsibility. I think it would be unfair to pin it on anybody.

“We have to look ourselves in the mirror and dust ourselves down and go again because things in football can change really quickly. That's what we are going to be thinking about.”

Nottingham Forest have dropped into the relegation zone, currently 18th with five points from eight games, two points behind 17th-placed Burnley.

Nottingham Forest is reportedly considering two high-profile candidates to replace Ange Postecoglou: Sean Dyche, the former Burnley and Everton manager, and Roberto Mancini, the ex-Manchester City boss who led the team to their first Premier League title.
