Amorim Praises Team Effort After Chelsea Win
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim expresses relief and pride after his team's 2-1 victory over Chelsea, despite some mistakes. Amorim praises United's resilience in securing a win, highlighting the importance of winning and the team's growth.
“Today we won. It's nice to win, but let's forget that and return to that urgency. We need to win the next...”
Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United made their 2-1 win over Chelsea unnecessarily complicated. Despite taking a 2-0 lead after Robert Sanchez's early red card, United had to dig deep to hold off Chelsea's late surge, with Trevoh Chalobah scoring a consolation goal.
Amorim expressed relief at the win, saying every victory is crucial, especially against strong opponents like Chelsea. He praised his team's aggressive start, which set the tone for the match. The red card for Sanchez helped United dominate, but Amorim's side was already in control.
Bruno Fernandes gave Manchester United the lead with his 100th goal for the club in all competitions, achieved in his 200th Premier League appearance. Casemiro then doubled United's advantage before being sent off for a second yellow card in first-half stoppage time.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, United managed to hold on after Trevoh Chalobah scored a late consolation goal for Chelsea. The tense final minutes tested United's resolve, but they ultimately secured their second win in six matches this season.
Manchester United's recent win has given Ruben Amorim's side a much-needed breather, lifting them to ninth place in the standings after languishing just above the relegation zone. “It was really important,” Amorim said. “I think we deserved it, but we complicated our lives every time.” This win marks a crucial turning point for the team, providing some breathing space for the Portuguese coach. Despite taking a 2-0 lead after Robert Sanchez's early red card, United had to dig deep to hold off Chelsea's late surge.
Amorim's comments highlight the team's inconsistent performance, where they struggled to capitalize on their advantage. The win, however, is a welcome boost for the team, and Amorim's emphasis on deserving the victory underscores his confidence in his team's abilities. With this win, United have shown resilience in the face of adversity, a trait Amorim believes is essential for their growth.
“I think we started the game really well in terms of the aggression and to push the opponent and to show that we were there, even to bring our fans with us.
“Of course, the sending-off of the goalkeeper helped us a lot, but we were in control, we scored two goals. And with everything going well, we made things complicated with that sending-off.
“The second half I think we managed well, but, in the end, the last 15 minutes was tough for us. They scored a goal and then we suffered together and we managed to win.”
Ruben Amorim expressed pride in Manchester United's resilience, securing their second win of the season despite a challenging start. The win over Chelsea showcased the team's ability to dig deep and overcome adversity.
Amorim now sets his sights on ending United's streak of not winning consecutive Premier League games, which dates back to last season. With a match against Brentford looming, Amorim urged his players to build on their recent success and push for back-to-back wins.
Amorim demands urgency
“Sometimes we have some moments that we feel an urgency to have a result. This team has shown many times that we have that urgency,” he said.
“Today we won. It's nice to win, but let's forget that and return to that urgency. We need to win the next game. That is the most important thing.
“Because in the big club it's not that feeling: 'today is a really good game, let's relax a little bit'. So, let's return that urgency.”

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed frustration after his team's game plan was disrupted by Robert Sanchez's early red card in the 2-1 loss to Manchester United. When asked if he would have preferred Sanchez to let Bryan Mbeumo score rather than commit the foul, Maresca candidly replied, “Yeah, probably it is the best solution because we are still 95 minutes to play.” This comment highlights the significant impact the red card had on Chelsea's strategy and the match's outcome. Maresca's response reflects the challenging situation his team faced after going down to 10 men.
“I think even Robert is aware of that. But also it's difficult because he has to take a decision in one second, two seconds. So, it's difficult.
“But, for sure, if you ask me, I prefer to be 1-0 down after three minutes than one player down.”
In an attempt to counter the momentum shift after Robert Sanchez's red card, Enzo Maresca made three substitutions during the first half. One notable change was the early withdrawal of Cole Palmer, who was struggling with an injury.
“He had a test this morning to play this game. He was not 100 per cent fit,” Maresca said after Chelsea's first league defeat this season.
“He made a fantastic effort to play this game, but he was not 100 per cent.”

Key Challenges Faced by Manchester United:
Casemiro's Sending Off: Casemiro's second yellow card offense in first-half stoppage time evened the numbers and made United's task more difficult. Amorim wasn't pleased with Casemiro's avoidable bookings, stating, “He's worse than me. We won, so I will forget a little bit, and he will suffer because he's a top professional.”
Late Pressure: Chelsea scored a late goal, making the final 15 minutes tense for United. Despite this, Amorim's team managed to secure the win.
