Lille's impressive record of scoring five goals from the 90th minute onwards this season didn't seem to matter much as Lens...

Lens secured a thrilling 3-0 victory over their heated rivals Lille in the Derby du Nord, marking their second home win in 11 meetings. This impressive win put an end to Lille's unbeaten start to the Ligue 1 campaign. The match saw Lens dominate the scoring, with Wesley Saïd netting the opener in the 28th minute after a corner kick.

The game got off to a lively start, with Lille goalkeeper Berke Ozer struggling to handle Rayan Fofana's header, which appeared to cross the line but was ultimately ruled offside. Despite this early scare, Lille struggled to gain momentum, while Lens continued to press forward.

Florian Thauvin doubled Lens's lead just before halftime with a stunning shot from the right side of the box. Rayan Fofana sealed the win with a clinical finish in the 52nd minute, capping off an impressive team performance.

The visitors nearly capitalized on their chance through Felix Correia, but Robin Risser palmed his effort away. Hakon Arnar Haraldsson then miscued a follow-up from a promising position.

The game was evenly matched in the opening period until the 28th minute, when Lens scored a bizarre goal. A low corner delivery somehow found its way into the net through a crowded penalty area, with Wesley Said celebrating the goal.

Despite the challenging conditions, with flare smoke and heavy rain, both teams maintained an attacking tempo in the first half. Lens proved the more clinical, capitalizing on quick transitions to take a two-goal lead into halftime. Florian Thauvin sealed the advantage with a composed, curling finish.

Having netted a league-high 13 goals in their first four Ligue 1 fixtures, Lille’s attacking prowess wasn’t in question, but their defence was looking increasingly suspect as they fell further behind shortly after the restart.

Once again, Ozer didn’t cover himself in glory, parrying a rifled effort from Ruben Aguilar into a dangerous zone, which allowed Fofana to turn the rebound home from close range.

A VAR check confirmed there was no foul in the build-up, further boosting Lens' momentum as the Stade Bollaert-Delelis erupted in excitement. The second half became increasingly one-sided, with Lens pushing for more goals. Although Florian Thauvin and Morgan Guilavogui missed opportunities, the win was already secure for the hosts.

Lille's impressive record of scoring five goals from the 90th minute onwards this season didn't seem to matter much as Lens comfortably held onto their lead and secured the win. This victory brings Lens within a point of Lille in the standings. With this loss, Lille misses the opportunity to take the top spot in the league, especially considering they've played one more game than the current leaders, Paris Saint-Germain.

Bruno Genesio's team had the chance to start the season with four top-flight wins in five for the first time since the 1952/53 season, but their three-match winning streak came to an end on a disappointing night for Lille.

This win marks a significant milestone for Lens, who demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the match.
