Jamie Gittens Joins Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in Big-Money Move
Chelsea strengthens their attacking lineup with the signing of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in a £50m deal. The 20-year-old England under-21 winger will join the Blues' squad, adding to their talent pool.
Chelsea has signed England under-21 winger Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in a £50 million deal. The 20-year-old, who previously spent time in Chelsea's academy, will boost the Blues' attacking options. The deal includes an initial £48.5 million payment, with £1.5 million potentially added through add-ons totaling £3.5 million more, reaching the total sum.
After leaving Chelsea's academy, Jamie Gittens joined Manchester City's academy before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2022. The 20-year-old winger accumulated 107 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 17 goals, including 12 in the Bundesliga and Champions League last season. “It's a great feeling to join such a big club as Chelsea,” Gittens said, expressing his excitement about the transfer.

“I can't wait to learn from everyone in the team and to push myself to the max here. It's an amazing feeling.”
Chelsea's big-spending summer continues with Jamie Gittens' arrival, making him the Blues' fifth signing. He joins new recruits Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Dario Essugo, and Mamadou Sarr. Additionally, 18-year-old Brazilian star Estevao Willian is set to join Chelsea after the club agreed a deal last year, with the youngster impressively scoring against the Blues in Palmeiras' Club World Cup defeat on Friday.

Gittens won't be eligible to play in Chelsea's upcoming Club World Cup semi-final against Fluminense on Tuesday or the final if the Blues advance.
“Jamie Gittens' career exemplifies the development of top talents at BVB,” said Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken.
“We discovered him very early, signed him almost at no cost, continuously developed him in our youth academy, and provided him with playing time at the highest professional level.
“Jamie has repaid that trust with dedication, performance, and goals. His transfer back to his home country would be highly valuable for us.”
Chelsea face financial pressure, having been fined €31 million by UEFA for breaching financial sustainability rules, with an additional €60 million suspended over four years. The Blues, who've qualified for the Champions League, are restricted from registering new players for European competitions unless they generate more from transfers than they spend on signings, adding urgency to recouping transfer spend through sales.
