Chelsea Football Club has confirmed the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town in a deal worth £30 million. The 22-year-old England U21 striker has penned a six-year contract, committing him to Stamford Bridge until June 2031.

Delap's impressive Premier League season with Ipswich, where he scored 12 goals in 37 appearances, caught Chelsea's attention. His release clause was triggered by Ipswich's relegation to the Championship, allowing him to join Chelsea. The Blues reportedly paid £20 million upfront, with the rest in instalments, and Ipswich also inserted a sell-on clause in the deal.

Manchester City, who sold Delap to Ipswich last year, will receive a 20% sell-on fee if Chelsea sell him in the future. Delap expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, stating, “I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach. It's going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.”

Delap's move reunites him with former Manchester City colleagues Cole Palmer and Enzo Maresca. Palmer praised Delap's abilities, and Maresca, who coached Delap at Manchester City's academy, is expected to help him improve his game. Delap will make his Chelsea debut at the Club World Cup, potentially against LAFC on June 16.

Liam Delap scored 12 Premier League goals in 37 appearances last season. Chelsea will pay £20 million upfront, activating a release clause in Delap's Ipswich contract, with the fee potentially rising to £30 million.

Liam Delap, a product of Manchester City's academy, is making a similar move to Cole Palmer, joining Chelsea from Ipswich. “I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach,” Delap said. “It's going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.”
