Jannik Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(3) to reach his first French Open final. The world number one will face defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

Sinner's powerful forehand gave Djokovic trouble, forcing the 38-year-old to scramble around the court. Despite his age, Djokovic showed flashes of brilliance, but Sinner's youthful energy ultimately paid off.

Novak Djokovic, chasing a record 25th Grand Slam title, showed his trademark resilience on the biggest stage, mounting a comeback threat before faltering. Jannik Sinner saved three set points in the third-set tiebreak and sealed the win on his second match point.

Jannik Sinner praised Novak Djokovic as the greatest player of all time, saying, “It was such a special occasion for me playing Novak in the semi-finals of a Grand Slam and I had to step up and play the best tennis I could. He's such a role model for us young players. I tried to not think about this but before going on court you feel the tension and what's coming against you.”

The match featured intense rallies, showcasing flashes of Djokovic's vintage form. Sinner's win sets up a French Open final against Carlos Alcaraz. The women's final between Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff will feature the top two ranked players, mirroring the men's final, a first at Roland Garros since 1984.

Winning Streaks

Djokovic's 27-match winning streak in Paris ended as Jannik Sinner outplayed him. While Sinner celebrated on court, Djokovic's frustration grew as he fell short of another major title that would have put him ahead of Margaret Court's record 24 Grand Slam wins.

Sinner was unfazed, exuding confidence after his recent wins at the 2024 US Open and 2024 Australian Open. He remained determined to reach his first French Open final.

Djokovic attempted to disrupt Sinner's rhythm with drop shots, but the Italian's solid game held strong. Despite struggling with his first-serve percentage, Sinner lost only three points on serve in the opening set, putting Djokovic at a disadvantage.

Djokovic fought hard in the second set, winning a thrilling rally that featured a pinball-like exchange at the net. However, after a grueling 26-shot rally that left him gasping for air, Sinner held serve to level the set at 1-1.

Sinner broke Djokovic for 4-3 on his second chance, but Djokovic mounted a comeback, earning his first break points against Sinner since 2023. The Serbian crowd erupted as Djokovic leveled the set at 4-4.

Sinner broke Djokovic for 4-3 on his second chance, but Djokovic fought back, earning break points for the first time against Sinner since 2023 and leveling at 4-4. However, Sinner remained composed, breaking again for 5-4 and then 6-5, and served out the set to lead 2-0.

In the third set, Sinner's errors gave Djokovic hope, and the Serbian had three set points on Sinner's serve. However, Sinner saved them calmly.

Djokovic appeared deflated in the tiebreak and ultimately lost. After the match, he touched the clay and crossed himself before leaving the arena.

The final will pit Sinner against Carlos Alcaraz, who advanced to the final after Lorenzo Musetti retired injured in their semifinal match.
