Perisic: ‘We Shall See’on Next Season's Destination After PSV Title Triumph

Ivan Perisic's future with PSV is uncertain after the Croatian winger helped the Dutch champions win the league title. Read more about his plans.

Ivan Perisic's future remains uncertain as his contract with PSV is set to expire. The former World Cup finalist, who joined the Dutch champions as a free agent in the summer of 2024, expressed uncertainty about his next destination, saying “We shall see.”

Perisic did, however, cap off his first season with PSV in style, winning the fourth league title of his career on Sunday as the club defeated Sparta Rotterdam 3-1.

Eredivisie Champions Feyenoord weren't going to let the title slip from their grasp. One point ahead before kickoff, they knew a win was essential to secure their 26th championship. Ivan Perisic opened the scoring with a well-placed low header in the first half. However, Sparta Prague equalized, and for a brief six-minute period, Ajax looked like they might pip Feyenoord to the title.

PSV maintained their composure under pressure and secured the win with goals from Luuk de Jong and Malik Tillman. After the match, Perisic expressed his elation, telling ESPN, “Unbelievable when you win this way, on the last day of the season. We didn't give up.”

"Thanks to Feyenoord"

A month and a half ago, Perisic and PSV had all but conceded the title after a 2-0 loss to Ajax at home. They shifted their focus to securing second place, which was under threat from Robin van Persie's Feyenoord, who were surging in form. However, PSV's fortunes changed, and they ultimately won the title on the final day, with Feyenoord's loss helping seal their fate.

“Thanks to Feyenoord as they kept pushing us from the third spot,” Perisic continued. “We kept fighting for the second spot and took advantage of Ajax's points loss.

”We were there till the last day. In the end, this is deserved. The best football, in the beginning and at the end of this season. In the middle, we lost some points, but in the end, we are the best team in the Netherlands”

Ivan Perisic initially started as a substitute behind Johan Bakayoko but eventually secured a starting spot on the right wing. He found great form towards the end of the season, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in his last six games.

Perisic has enjoyed his role as a mentor in PSV's young squad. “I left my country when I was 17 years old. I know it is difficult and also that my advice is going to help them in the future.”

The Croatian veteran is uncertain about his future with PSV, saying, “We shall see. I will decide that with my family.”
