EPL: Chelsea Edges Liverpool 3-1 to Continue Top-Five Charge

Chelsea secures a crucial 3-1 win over Liverpool, keeping their Champions League qualification hopes alive with a vital victory.

Chelsea had a chance to double their lead shortly after when Noni Madueke found Enzo Fernández, but the winger opted to shoot instead of passing to the open striker, and his effort went wide. Liverpool then had a spell of possession, but Chelsea's defense held firm, and Robert Sánchez didn't face any significant threats. The hosts continued to threaten on the counter, but Alisson didn't have to make a save before halftime.

After halftime, Chelsea's threat continued, with Alisson saving a tame shot from Nicolas Jackson. The Blues then doubled their lead in fortunate circumstances when Cole Palmer's low cross was met with a misjudged clearance from Virgil van Dijk, which ricocheted off Jarrell Quansah and into the net.

The goal sparked Liverpool into life, with Virgil van Dijk heading over, Darwin Núñez nodding wide from close range, and Mohamed Salah also failing to find the target. Chelsea then had a golden opportunity to seal the win, but Alisson saved Jadon Sancho's low shot, and Cole Palmer's effort from a tight angle hit the post.

The missed chances were swiftly punished as Van Dijk headed home from a corner, setting up a tense finish for Chelsea.

Chelsea sealed the win in stoppage time when Jarrell Quansah fouled Moisés Caicedo, allowing Cole Palmer to score from 12 yards, his first goal since January.

The victory leaves Chelsea three points clear of Nottingham Forest, having played one more game. They now prepare for a crucial match against Newcastle United in the Champions League race. For Liverpool, the defeat is a minor blip ahead of their title parade.
