Serie A: Roma Beat Fiorentina As Malen Scores Three, Dybala Assists All

Roma Vs Fiorentina
Malen nets hat-trick in Roma’s demolition of Fiorentina

Gasperini’s Roma hit ground running with win over Fiorentina. Dybala Assists Malen Treble As Roma Rout Fiorentina 4-0.

Chasing a 12th clean sheet at the Olimpico, Roma instead added a fourth late on...

Donyell Malen scored a hat-trick to fire Roma to a winning start to the Serie A season with a 4-0 win over Fiorentina.

Paulo Dybala set up all three of Malen’s goals as Roma extended their winning league run to six games with a statement 4-0 home win.

Roma were unbeatable at the Olimpico to close last season and picked up where they left off. Dybala fired an early shot on target inside the opening minutes.

Marco Brescianini broke free and forced Mile Svilar into a save at the other end, but Roma did most of the attacking. David de Gea had to pull off a flying stop to deny Rodrigo Mora’s curling right-foot effort.

Roma kept pushing and broke the deadlock on 27 minutes. Dybala cut in from the left, drove at the defence and slipped it to Malen, who spun away from Dodo before finishing.

For Fiorentina fans, it felt like a flashback to last season’s nightmare 15-game winless run. There was little to cheer about before half-time.

Things got worse for Fiorentina five minutes into the second half as Malen struck again. Hermoso launched a long ball for Dybala, who teed up Malen. He cut onto his left and blasted it past De Gea at the near post.

It seemed inevitable Malen would get his hat-trick, and he did. He linked with Dybala again, who drove to the byline and cut it back for an easy tap-in to complete the treble.

Roma wanted a league-best 12th home clean sheet, but they got a bonus goal instead. Matias Soule’s cross fell to Niccolo Pisilli, who steadied himself and poked past De Gea to make it 4-0.

With a solid defence, dangerous attack, and Gian Piero Gasperini’s unpredictable tactics, Roma fans have reason to believe this could be a big season. For Fiorentina, sacking Paolo Vanoli for Fabio Grosso already looks like a risky move.
