Martin Returns to MotoGP in Qatar After Injury Layoff

Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Martin returns to action at the Qatar Grand Prix after missing three races due to injury, trailing championship leader Alex Marquez by 87 points.

Reigning MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin will return from injury this weekend at the Qatar Grand Prix, after missing the first three races of the season due to injuries sustained in a crash during pre-season testing in Malaysia. Martin broke his right hand and foot in the incident.

“I'm happy to at least be able to try and race in Qatar,” Martin said in an Aprilia statement. “The goal will be to build up a bit of confidence with the RS-GP25 and to begin to turn some laps. I don't know how my physical fitness will be - undoubtedly not 100 percent... Physically, I'm not even sure I'll be able to finish the race, but if we can manage, it will be a victory because that will mean that I'm beginning to recover.” Martin expressed his eagerness to get back on track, stating, “I have a great desire to be back on the track.”

Qatar Grand Prix Preview

The Qatar Grand Prix weekend is set to begin at the Lusail circuit with practice sessions on Friday. Jorge Martin, the reigning MotoGP world champion, will make his belated season debut, having signed for Aprilia after a narrow title win over Francesco Bagnaia last season while racing for Ducati satellite team Pramac.

Martin will start his title defense 87 points behind early championship leader Alex Marquez. Marquez, riding for Gresini, holds a one-point lead in the standings over his older brother and six-time world champion Marc Marquez. The elder Marquez has had a revitalized season so far, with two race victories and three sprint wins, making the championship battle intense.
