Dortmund's Late Surge Falls Short in UCL Quarterfinals

Barcelona advances to the semi-finals despite a loss to Dortmund, led by Serhou Guirassy's impressive hat-trick. Read more about the match and upcoming fixtures.

Borussia Dortmund staged a thrilling comeback against Barcelona, winning 3-1 on the night, but it wasn't enough to overturn a four-goal deficit from the first leg. Despite this, the team's spirited performance and the energetic atmosphere at the stadium were undeniable.

Serhou Guirassy scored a hat-trick for Dortmund, including a penalty kick that he took with a Panenka-style finish, beating goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. The team's frantic nature and the noise generated by the Yellow Wall made for an electric atmosphere, with Maximilian Beier and Daniel Svensson also testing Barcelona's defense early on.

Dortmund continued to push forward, and their efforts were rewarded just four minutes after the restart when Ramy Bensebaini headed a corner to Serhou Guirassy, who nodded it over the line. However, Bensebaini's momentum was short-lived, as he turned Fermín's driven cross into his own net five minutes later.

After taking the lead, Barcelona dominated possession, but Fermín's promising shot sailed over the bar following a great team move. Dortmund's coach, Edin Terzic, made substitutions, but Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong helped maintain control. Nonetheless, Guirassy scored his hat-trick goal when he pounced on a loose ball after Ronald Araujo failed to clear Julien Duranville's cross.

Despite Dortmund's dominant performance, Barcelona held on to advance to the UCL semi-finals, where they'll face either Inter Milan or Bayern Munich. Julian Brandt thought he'd scored again, but was flagged for offside, and Jules Koundé blocked Daniel Svensson's volley.

The 3-1 win on the night wasn't enough to overturn the deficit, but the result can serve as redemption for Dortmund ahead of their crucial Bundesliga match against Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday. A strong finish to the season could still keep their hopes of a UCL return next season alive.
