Bundesliga: Leverkusen Wins 2-0, Keeps Title Race Alive

Bayer Leverkusen keeps Bundesliga title hopes alive with 2-0 win over Augsburg, extending Augsburg's wait for a record-breaking 12th clean sheet.

Bayer Leverkusen kept their Bundesliga title hopes alive with a 2-0 win over Augsburg at the BayArena. This result ended Augsburg's unbeaten away league streak of eight games in 2025.

Leverkusen dominated the match, scoring the opening goal in the 13th minute. A well-executed move down the right flank ended with Nathan Tella's precise pass to Patrik Schick, who charged forward and unleashed a powerful shot past Finn Dahmen.

Patrik Schick's goal marked his second consecutive match with a score, while Augsburg continued to struggle, falling short of their 12th Bundesliga clean sheet of the season. Despite Augsburg's rally, Leverkusen showed determination to protect their lead.

A key moment came when Nathan Tella appeared to score, tapping in from Alejandro Grimaldo's cross. However, VAR intervened, ruling him offside. Leverkusen's focus remained on securing the win.

Meanwhile, news from Munich revealed Bayern taking the lead against Mainz, restoring their eight-point cushion over Leverkusen. This development added pressure on Leverkusen to maintain their title aspirations.

Leverkusen sealed their win with a second goal in first-half stoppage time. Emiliano Buendía scored with a powerful shot from outside the box, placing the ball in the bottom-right corner of Finn Dahmen's net.

The teams went into halftime with Leverkusen leading 2-0, and neither manager made any substitutions. After the break, Florian Wirtz came close to scoring again, forcing Dahmen to make a crucial save. Augsburg finally woke up and created chances, with Samuel Essende having a promising opportunity that went just wide.

Alexis Claude-Maurice created a scoring opportunity for Augsburg, unleashing a volley from mid-range that Matej Kovar impressively saved. Later, Cedric Zesiger delivered a promising cross into the box, but Phillip Tietz's header went straight to Kovar.

As the match neared its end, Leverkusen regained composure, but Jonas Hofmann failed to capitalize on a chance, sending the ball wide. Despite Augsburg's late push, Leverkusen's dominant first half proved enough to secure the win.

The result keeps the Bundesliga title race alive, with Leverkusen still in contention. However, their status could change if Bayern Munich wins at RB Leipzig, potentially leaving Leverkusen as former champions by their next match.
