Alex Marquez secured his maiden MotoGP victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, riding for Gresini Racing. The win allowed him to take the championship lead, capitalizing on his brother Marc's misfortune.

Marc Marquez crashed early in the race, finishing 12th and handing his younger brother the opportunity to seize the championship lead. Alex Marquez dominated the race in front of a home crowd of over 100,000 fans, ending a streak of second-place finishes.

Fabio Quartararo secured second place, giving Yamaha their first podium since the 2023 Indonesian Grand Prix. Meanwhile, Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia took third place.

Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez made history as the first brothers to win in MotoGP, sharing a heartfelt embrace in the winner's circle after Marc's victory.

The day belonged to Alex Marquez, the Gresini rider, who took the chequered flag and now leads his elder brother Marc by one point in the standings. The flag was waved by Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz.

“The best birthday present, amazing. The first one in Jerez is something amazing,” Alex Marquez said. “I cannot ask for more. It was a race where I was really clever in all the movements.” Alex celebrated his 29th birthday earlier in the week.

The opening lap was intense, with polesitter Fabio Quartararo getting a perfect start to lead into turn one. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez, the sprint winner, dropped to fourth place.

Alex Marquez attempted an ambitious move, trying to overtake three riders by threading through a narrow gap, but braked too late and fell behind. Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia had a collision while battling for position.

Marc Marquez crashed at turn seven while running third, rejoining in 22nd place with a damaged bike. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez aggressively overtook Francesco Bagnaia, moving into second place and setting his sights on Fabio Quartararo.

The Yamaha rider tried to defend his position, but Alex's pace eventually proved too strong. On lap 11, Alex overtook Quartararo, drawing cheers from the Marquez Grandstand as he took the lead.

Once Alex Marquez took the lead, he pulled away, while Francesco Bagnaia struggled to overtake Fabio Quartararo for second place. Quartararo held on to second, securing Yamaha's first podium since the 2023 Indonesian Grand Prix.

“Incredible, to be on the podium is super special - especially with the gap to Alex and to keep Pecco (Bagnaia) behind in the race was so difficult,” Quartararo said. “It's been long years but super happy to be back on the podium in Jerez.”
