Manchester United Announces Further Job Cuts Amid Financial Restructuring

Manchester United is set to cut 150-200 jobs as part of a major restructuring effort aimed at reversing financial losses and achieving long-term sustainability

Manchester United has revealed plans to cut approximately 150-200 jobs as part of a broader effort to reverse the club's financial losses. This move follows the removal of 250 jobs last year and is aimed at “transforming” the club's corporate structure. According to CEO Omar Berrada, the decision is a necessary step to address the club's financial struggles. “We have lost money for the past five consecutive years. This cannot continue,” Berrada stated.

Berrada emphasized that the club's primary objectives are to deliver success on the pitch for its fans and improve its facilities. However, he noted that these goals cannot be achieved if the club continues to incur financial losses. “Our two main priorities as a club are delivering success on the pitch for our fans and improving our facilities. We cannot invest in these objectives if we are continuously losing money,” Berrada explained. The job cuts are expected to be part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at restoring the club's financial stability.

Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada has outlined the club's vision for a more sustainable future, following the announcement of further job cuts. “At the end of this process, we will have a more lean, agile and financially sustainable football club, while continuing to provide a world-class service to our valuable commercial partners,” Berrada stated. He emphasized that this restructuring effort will ultimately enable the club to invest in football success and improved facilities for fans, while remaining compliant with UEFA and Premier League regulations. “We will then be in a much stronger position to invest in football success and improved facilities for fans while remaining compliant with UEFA and Premier League regulations.”

The latest round of job cuts is part of a broader restructuring effort initiated by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, who acquired a 25% stake in the club and took charge of its operations. Ratcliffe's efforts aim to revive the club's fortunes on the pitch. In addition to the job cuts, Ratcliffe has reportedly implemented other cost-cutting measures, including closing the staff canteen at Old Trafford and serving only fruit to the remaining staff. This new round of cuts follows approximately 200 job losses last year. Manchester United is currently struggling in the Premier League, sitting 16th in the table, and will face Ipswich Town at home on Wednesday night.
