Kane Hails Bayern's 'Dominant Performance' Ahead of Champions League Clash

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane praises his team's dominant performance against Frankfurt and looks ahead to their Champions League tie against Leverkusen.

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has disclosed that the decision to start him on the bench for their 4-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt was made at the last minute, on Sunday morning. Kane had been nursing a calf injury since Bayern's Champions League game against Celtic last Tuesday and had only trained briefly before the visit of Frankfurt. Despite initial expectations that he would miss the game, Kane was a surprise inclusion on the bench for Vincent Kompany's side.

Kane explained the circumstances surrounding his surprise bench appearance, stating, “I didn't train for a few days after the Celtic game, and we just tried to give it as much rest as possible.” He continued, “Yesterday I felt for about 30 minutes and it felt ok. We made a decision today (Sunday) to be on the bench and I think it was the right call.” Kane acknowledged that the decision was not ideal for the coach, but felt it was the correct one, given the team's need for “fresh legs, fresh energy on the pitch.”

Kane expressed his satisfaction with the 20 minutes he played at the end of the game, saying, “It was nice to get that 20 minutes at the end just to see how it felt — and it felt good.” He is now focusing on preparing for Bayern's next game on Friday, stating, “We have five more days until the game on Friday and it should be fine. The team are off tomorrow (Monday) so I will get some treatment and be in the best possible shape for Friday.”

Bayern's dominant 4-0 victory over Frankfurt kept them eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga. Kane was introduced for Thomas Mueller in the 64th minute, and although he was frustrated with his limited playing time, he acknowledged the team's impressive performance. Kane confessed, “To be honest, I hate watching the game when I'm not involved. I don't enjoy it.”

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane praised his team's “dominant performance” in their 4-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. Kane highlighted the team's energy and suffocating defense as key factors in their success, saying, “But the performance was really top from everyone. There were a lot of fresh players in there today who hadn't played for a game or so and I think you saw that energy from the start.” He added, “Without the ball, I think was the biggest difference compared with recent recent games. We just suffocated them and gave them very few opportunities and created quite a few. A real dominant performance.”

Kane is now looking ahead to Bayern's Champions League last-16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen, an all-German contest that promises to be intense. The two teams have already met three times this season, with Leverkusen winning one game and the other two ending in draws. Kane acknowledged that the tie will be tough, saying, “It will be tough. Whether we got Leverkusen or Madrid, it would have been two tough games.” However, he expressed confidence in Bayern's ability to hurt Leverkusen if they can replicate their dominant performance against Frankfurt. “We remember the performance we had against them with 10 men. If we go into that game with the same dominant performance we had today, we can hurt them.”

Kane also recognized that Leverkusen will be motivated by their previous win over Bayern, saying, “They are probably looking at the fact that they beat us and are thinking that they can do that again.” However, he emphasized the importance of Bayern bringing their characteristic energy and dominant performance to the tie. “We have to try to bring the energy that we brought today and for the majority of the season. They will be exciting games.” The first leg of the tie is scheduled to take place at the Allianz Arena on March 5.
