Jude Bellingham Faces Possible 12-Match Ban for Alleged Insult to Referee

Jude Bellingham's red card for abusive language could lead to a lengthy suspension, with the Real Madrid midfielder potentially facing a 4-12 match ban.

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham is facing a possible 12-match ban after being sent off during Saturday's 1-1 draw against Osasuna. The 21-year-old English international was given a red card in the first half of the match, which could lead to a lengthy suspension.

According to referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero, Bellingham was dismissed for using abusive language towards him. Munuera Montero stated in his referee's report that Bellingham directed the following words at him: “F*** you.” This incident occurred in the 40th minute of the match, just a few meters away from the referee.

Bellingham has denied the allegations, contesting the reason for his red card. However, if Munuera Montero's report is upheld, Bellingham will likely face severe disciplinary action, potentially resulting in a 12-match ban.

According to the rules, Bellingham's alleged insult towards the referee falls under the category of “Insulting, offending or using insulting terms or attitudes towards the main referee, assistants, fourth referee, directors or sports authorities, unless it constitutes a more serious offence...” As stated, such behavior “will be punished with a suspension of four to twelve matches.”
