Liverpool's Mohamed Salah Matches Wayne Rooney's Premier League Feat
Mohamed Salah equalled Wayne Rooney's Premier League record for most goals scored at a single venue, netting his 101st Anfield goal in Liverpool's 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's Egyptian talisman, has achieved a notable milestone in the Premier League, equalling Wayne Rooney's record of scoring goals at a home venue. Salah's impressive feat came when he netted Liverpool's second goal in their 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Sunday.
The 32-year-old Salah scored from the penalty spot in the 37th minute, doubling Liverpool's advantage after Luis Diaz had given the hosts a 15th-minute lead. This goal brought Salah's tally at Anfield to 101, matching Rooney's record at Old Trafford during his time with Manchester United.
Salah is now closing in on another Premier League legend, Sergio Aguero, who scored 106 goals at the Etihad Stadium during his successful spell with Manchester City. To achieve the record for most goals scored at a single venue, Salah would need to surpass Arsenal legend Thierry Henry's impressive tally of 114 goals at Highbury.
Despite a late consolation goal from Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha, Wolverhampton Wanderers were unable to prevent Liverpool from claiming all three points. Cunha's effort reduced the deficit, but it ultimately proved insufficient to alter the outcome of the match.
Mohamed Salah's goal not only helped Liverpool secure the win but also enhanced his own prospects of claiming the Golden Boot. With his strike against Wolves, Salah has now scored in six consecutive matches and has taken his tally of league goals for the 2024-25 campaign to 23.
Mohamed Salah's illustrious career at Liverpool began in 2017 when he joined the club from AS Roma for a reported £36.5m fee. Over the past eight years, he has cemented his status as a club legend, playing a pivotal role in Liverpool's Champions League and Premier League title triumphs. Salah has also etched his name in the club's record books as the all-time top scorer in both competitions.

With his contract at Anfield set to expire at the end of the season, Salah's future remains uncertain. Several top clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, are reportedly vying for his signature. Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Salah continues to deliver outstanding performances for Liverpool.
The Reds' 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers marked a return to winning ways, following a thrilling 2-2 draw at Everton in their previous outing. This result enabled Liverpool to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to seven points, with Arsenal occupying second place.
Looking ahead, Liverpool face a challenging schedule, with their next match against Aston Villa in three days' time. They will then travel to the Etihad Stadium on February 23 for a highly anticipated encounter with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, a match that promises to be a potential league classic.
