EPL: Fulham Complete Dramatic Turnaround to Beat Newcastle 2-1

Fulham staged a stunning second-half comeback to beat Newcastle United 2-1, denting the Magpies' top-four hopes in the Premier League.

Newcastle United's top-four aspirations suffered a setback as they squandered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 against Fulham at St James' Park. This defeat allowed Fulham to secure a league double over the Magpies for the first time since the 2008/09 season.

The match began in uneventful fashion, with Newcastle dominating possession but struggling to create meaningful scoring opportunities. A wayward effort from Jacob Murphy, which sailed high and wide, epitomized the hosts' lackluster start. Eddie Howe's men continued to toil in the final third, with Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar both spurning half-chances to test Bernd Leno in the Fulham goal.

Newcastle's pressure eventually paid off, albeit with a hint of fortune, as Anthony Gordon's cross was cleared into the path of the unmarked Jacob Murphy, who swept the ball into an empty net. This goal punished Fulham's reluctance to attack, but the visitors would soon find their footing.

The second half witnessed a dramatic shift in momentum, as Fulham began to dictate the pace of the game. They registered more shots in the opening 10 minutes than they had in the entire first half, although none of these efforts truly tested Martin Dubravka. A leveller seemed inevitable, and Fulham's persistence eventually paid off.

Fulham's swift counterattack, facilitated by a neat exchange of passes, culminated in Antonee Robinson's cutback being finished off by Raul Jimenez, albeit with the aid of a significant deflection. This equalizer left Newcastle reeling, and the hosts struggled to regain their footing.

Eddie Howe's men looked shell-shocked throughout the second half, lacking their usual potency in the final third. Most of their scoring opportunities were half-chances at best, and they struggled to create meaningful threats. Alexander Isak's effort, which crashed off the woodwork, was a rare moment of concern for Fulham.

In the end, it was Fulham who had the last laugh, as substitute Rodrigo Muniz headed home at the near post to complete the comeback. This victory marked Fulham's fourth win from their last eight league games on the road. Conversely, Newcastle missed a golden opportunity to climb back into the top four, making this defeat a significant setback.
