The Open Returns to St Andrews in 2027
The R&A has announced that the 155th Open Championship will be held at St Andrews in Scotland in 2027, continuing the venue's rich history of hosting the tournament.
The 155th Open Championship is set to take place at St Andrews in Scotland in 2027, the R&A announced on Thursday. The tournament, widely regarded as the “Home of Golf,” will be played from July 15th to 18th, marking its return to the Old Course for the first time since 2022. That year, Cameron Smith carded a stunning final-round 64 to lift the Claret Jug.
Mark Darbon, chief executive of the R&A, expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament's return to St Andrews, saying “I'm looking forward to The Open's return to St Andrews every bit as much as the fans and the players.” Darbon highlighted the special significance of hosting the tournament on the Old Course, noting that “there is something incredibly special about The Open being played on the Old Course and so many of the great champions have walked these fairways since the first staging here in 1873.”
St Andrews has a rich history of hosting the Open, having done so 30 times previously. The current champion, US golfer Xander Schauffele, won the title at Royal Troon last year. Before the 2027 tournament at St Andrews, the Open will be held at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland this year, followed by Royal Birkdale in Southport in 2026.
