Tedesco's Tenure Ends: Belgium Parts Ways with Coach

Belgium has sacked coach Domenico Tedesco following a string of disappointing results, including a poor showing in the European Championship and Nations League. Tedesco's contract was set to run until 2026.

Belgium has parted ways with coach Domenico Tedesco, 39, following a string of underwhelming results in recent months. The decision had been widely expected for weeks, particularly after Tedesco's notable absence from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers draw in December.

Tedesco was formally informed of the decision at a meeting of the Belgian Football Association on Friday, according to reports. His departure marks the end of a tenure that was initially set to run until 2026. Tedesco's time in charge was marked by disappointing performances, including Belgium's early exit from the European Championship last year and a lackluster showing in the Nations League.

The final nail in Tedesco's coffin came in November, when Belgium suffered a defeat at the hands of Israel in a Nations League match held in neutral Hungary. This loss proved to be the last straw, rendering Tedesco's position as coach untenable.
