Manchester City has secured the long-term future of star striker Erling Haaland, who has signed a massive nine-and-a-half-year contract extension. The new deal, which will keep Haaland at the club until 2034, removes any release clauses that were present in his previous contract, which was set to expire in June 2027.

Haaland's new contract is reportedly one of the most lucrative in sporting history, according to The Athletic. The 24-year-old Norwegian expressed his delight at committing to Manchester City, saying: “I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club.” Haaland also praised the club's environment, stating: “Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it's the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.”

Erling Haaland has established himself as one of the most feared strikers in the world since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. Under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, Haaland has been prolific, scoring 111 goals in 126 games for the club. His impressive performances have helped City win two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup, and Super Cup.

Haaland expressed his gratitude to Guardiola, the coaching staff, his teammates, and the entire club for their support over the past couple of years. He said: “I also want to thank Pep, his coaching staff, my teammates and everyone at the Club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years. They have made this such a special place to be and now I am City no matter what.” Haaland also emphasized his commitment to continuous improvement, stating: “I want to keep developing, keep working to get better and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward.”

Despite Haaland's impressive goal-scoring record, including 16 league goals this season, Manchester City has faced a challenging campaign. The team currently sits sixth in the Premier League, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool, and has recently experienced a dismal run of one win in 13 games across all competitions. Additionally, City is struggling to advance in the Champions League, hovering just above the play-off line with two games remaining.
