Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League celebrations after victory over Barcelona turned to dismay on Wednesday as the club confirmed winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will need knee surgery, likely ruling him out for the rest of the season in a devastating blow for the champions.
Kvaratskhelia twisted his knee during PSG's 4-2 win on Tuesday and had to be helped from the field just before the hour mark, with the Georgian unable to put any weight on his leg.
The injury deprives PSG of last season's best player in the competition as they sit top of the standings this term with a perfect record of three wins from three, chasing a third consecutive title.
ACL injuries typically require at least six months of recovery.
The 25-year-old scored 10 goals and added six assists as PSG retained their European crown last season, form that also earned him a place on the shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.
Tuesday's victory came at a heavy price for PSG, with reigning Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé limping off in the 19th minute with a thigh injury, while defender Marquinhos also departed with a similar issue.

Dembele's setback is another major blow after the Frenchman started the season with four goals and six assists in all competitions.
PSG said both Dembélé and Marquinhos will continue treatment over the coming weeks.
Luis Enrique's side are second in Ligue 1 and next face leaders Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday, with Lyon ahead on goal difference.
