UCL: PSG End Barcelona Unbeaten Start With Champions League Thriller

PSG Vs Barcelona
PSG beat Barcelona to stay perfect in Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain made it 13 Champions League games without defeat after their 4-2 win over Barcelona at the Parc des Princes, which sees them remain top of the table and hand the Catalans their first defeat of the 2026/27 season.

Second half erupts as PSG hand Barcelona first loss of season in titanic clash...

Paris Saint-Germain extended their unbeaten run in the UEFA Champions League to 13 games with a 4-2 victory over Barcelona at the Parc des Princes, staying top of the table and inflicting the Catalans' first defeat of the 2026/27 season.

PSG made a blistering start, pressing Barcelona from the first whistle, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia striking the woodwork and both Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue testing the goalkeeper within the opening five minutes.

By contrast, the visitors looked nervous on the ball and had already lost possession 15 times before 10 minutes had elapsed.

Dembele attempted another driving run before the halfway point of the first half but appeared to tweak his hamstring and had to be replaced by Ferran Torres.

Barcelona started to create chances, and Matvey Safonov had to stand tall to deny Raphinha from close range. A fine move from the hosts left Torres with only Joan Garcia to beat, but he dragged his effort wide and allowed the goalkeeper to make the save.

Garcia soon denied Torres once more before keeping out Fabian Ruiz’s effort in what was rapidly turning into a man-of-the-match performance.

He was powerless to stop Doue’s powerful low drive as half-time approached, however, with the Frenchman slotting his shot into the bottom corner.

Fermin Lopez was sent through by Pedri shortly after and should have done much better in his one-on-one with Safonov.

Although the visitors took control at the start of the second half, PSG came closer to extending their lead after a quick breakaway, with Garcia once again proving the hero with another superb save.

Xavi Espart, making his Champions League debut, then took it upon himself to race clear of the PSG defence and fire his shot past a static Safonov to silence the home crowd.

Injuries to Kvaratskhelia and Marquinhos, along with a triple substitution from Barca, had shifted the momentum firmly in the visitors’ favour.

Torres struck the post from a few yards out with 20 minutes remaining, before Lucas Hernandez headed in from the resulting corner to put PSG back in front against the run of play.

With 12 minutes remaining, Lamine Yamal outpaced Warren Zaire-Emery and toe-poked Barcelona’s second equaliser of the game in from an impossible angle, but just two minutes later, Vitinha smashed home PSG’s third from the edge of the box.

Fabian Ruiz’s late fourth settled the contest and ensured Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the season.

The result means PSG remain top of the Champions League table with maximum points, while Barcelona have now gone 18 Champions League matches without a clean sheet an issue Hansi Flick must address if the Catalans are to be considered genuine contenders for the trophy.
