Coventry City have completed the permanent signing of goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion on a long-term contract, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday. The move comes after a successful loan spell at the CBS Arena last season.

Rushworth featured 46 times in the Championship for Coventry last term and kept 17 clean sheets. His performances helped the Sky Blues secure promotion and end a 25-year wait to return to the Premier League.

The fee was not officially disclosed, but UK reports put the deal at around £22.5 million ($30.26 million) for the 25-year-old.

Rushworth signed for Brighton from Halifax Town in 2019, but never featured for the first team. During his seven years at the club he was sent out on loan to six different sides.

“There’s ‌excitement. I can finally relax knowing it's done and that I’m back with the boys and at a club I loved being at,” he said in a statement.

“I'm excited to have this new challenge in the Premier ‌League and to be able to call this place home is ‌a big thing I've been looking forward to.”

Premier League action begins for Coventry on August 21 with a visit to title holders Arsenal.
