Algeria announced on Monday that they have split with head coach Vladimir Petkovic. The decision came despite the Bosnian signing a contract extension earlier this year, ahead of a World Cup campaign that ended in the round of 32.

The 62-year-old was appointed in February 2024 and agreed terms through 2028 before the tournament began.

“The ‌Algerian Football Federation announce that their contractual relationship with the national team head coach, Mr. Vladimir Petkovic, and his coaching staff has officially ⁠come to an end today, on a mutual agreement between the two parties,” the local ‌soccer governing body said in a statement.

Algeria advanced to the round of 32 at the expanded 48-team World Cup in North America as one of the eight best third-placed teams, before falling 2-0 to Switzerland.

The Fennecs kick off qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations in September. They were drawn in Group I with Zambia, Togo and Burundi.
