Clara Tauson finds form in Bad Homburg with win over Zheng Qinwen...
After a rough patch that saw her go winless for over three and a half months, Clara Tauson has found her rhythm at Bad Homburg. The Dane backed up her first win by beating reigning Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the WTA 500 quarter-finals.
Clara Tauson looks like she’s rediscovered her form following a long stretch of difficult, winless results.
At the WTA 500 in Bad Homburg, Tauson made it back-to-back wins following her tough run. She knocked out defending Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to keep her run going.
The match stretched nearly two and a half hours in almost 35°C heat. But Tauson looked sharper and more mobile. Despite physical issues that have troubled her in 2026, she appeared fresher than Zheng for most of the contest.
Tauson Turns Season Around, Downs Olympic Champion
As a result, Tauson built on flashes of her best tennis. She backed up her straight-sets win over French Open semi-finalist Diana Shnaider in round one on Monday.
Next up in the quarter-finals, Tauson will meet either Czech fourth seed Karolina Muchova or Romanian qualifier Irina-Camelia Begu.
Zheng Qinwen received a wildcard for Bad Homburg. She’s slid from world No. 4 to No. 153 over the last year while dealing with injury.
Zheng showed the quality that took her to the Australian Open final in the opening set. It was a tight, long set with few break chances, but the Chinese player was clinical when it mattered and edged it 7-5.
Tauson kept her composure despite physical struggles this year, cooling down with an ice pack on her head during changeovers. When she broke for 1-0 in the second after Zheng served up four double faults in one game, momentum swung her way and she took control of the set.

Powered by a booming first serve, the 23-year-old Dane never faced pressure on her own serve. She also kept unforced errors to a minimum while Zheng gave away more free points.
The third set followed the same script. Tauson grabbed an early break for 1-0 and held firm, not facing a single break point on her serve.
Zheng struggled for consistency, and Tauson pounced again to break for 5-2. She then closed it out on serve to seal her spot in the quarter-finals.
