Mirra Andreeva vs Alexandrova Bad Homburg: Grass woes continue for French Open champ.

French Open Champ Mirra Andreeva loses first match since Roland Garros at Bad Homburg...

Andreeva said she pulled out of Berlin to give herself extra time to recover and adjust for Wimbledon after her French Open win on clay in June.

The 19-year-old kept pace with Alexandrova early in the first set. But she then dropped seven games in a row as temperatures climbed in central Germany.

Andreeva trailed 4-0 and faced break point at 40-15 in the second set. She saved it and reeled off three games in a row to get back into contention.

But world No. 19 Alexandrova, 31, regained her composure. She held serve to close out the set and sealed the win in 1 hour 28 minutes.

Alexandrova now moves on to a quarter-final against Japan’s Naomi Osaka.

Earlier on Wednesday, Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse eased past Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya 7-5, 6-2. Denmark’s Clara Tauson also advanced, coming from a set down to beat China’s Zheng Qinwen 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.

The late match on Wednesday features defending Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek. The 2025 Bad Homburg finalist will face American Emma Navarro.
