Despite missing out on England’s World Cup squad, Adam Wharton remains a top transfer target. Chelsea have scouted him all season and view him as ideal for their project.
Chelsea ready to test Palace’s resolve over Adam Wharton amid midfield hunt...
Missing out on England’s World Cup squad hasn’t cooled interest in Adam Wharton. The Crystal Palace midfielder is still set to be one of the summer’s biggest talking points in the transfer market.
The 22-year-old has been excellent again for Palace this season and capped it off with Europa Conference League glory at Selhurst Park, which only boosted his stock across the Premier League.
Palace are desperate to keep hold of Wharton and want him to stay and lead them into the Europa League next season. But Chelsea are watching his situation closely and have been tracking him all year.
The Blues have scouted Wharton consistently throughout the campaign and are viewed as one of the main clubs ready to test Palace’s resolve with a bid.
Chelsea are on the hunt for midfield reinforcements this summer.
Enzo Fernandez’s future is still being debated, but sources say Chelsea’s interest in Wharton has nothing to do with the Argentine staying or leaving Stamford Bridge.
Instead, Chelsea’s push for Wharton ties more to doubts over Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos and their availability going forward.
Either way, Chelsea’s transfer strategy is shifting slightly. They’ve mostly targeted young prospects lately, but sources say the club now wants proven Premier League players as they try to speed up progress under the current project.
Inside Chelsea, Wharton is seen as a perfect match for the direction they’re heading.
The London side have also looked at other homegrown midfielders like Elliot Anderson and Alex Scott. But word around the game is that Anderson is leaning toward Manchester City, and Chelsea are believed to have stepped back from that one.

Scott is still drawing interest, with Manchester United keeping tabs on the Bournemouth midfielder in case their top targets don’t work out.
Since Wharton isn’t part of the upcoming World Cup squad, there’s no rush for him to make a decision on his future right now.
He’s handled the England snub well despite the disappointment.
“I’m not going to sit here and cry about it,” he said. “I don’t dwell on those things too much.”
