The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal worth up to $25 million. The move was reported by multiple outlets on Saturday.

Rodgers’ contract includes a base salary of $22 million to $23 million, with the rest available through incentives. At 42, he’ll be entering his 22nd NFL season and his second year with Pittsburgh once the deal is finalized.

Pittsburgh went 10-7 last season and won the AFC North with Rodgers starting at quarterback. Their season ended in the first round of the playoffs with a 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans.

Rodgers finished 2025 with 3,322 passing yards and 24 touchdowns, the lowest yardage total of his career in any season where he played at least 10 games.

He’s returning to a Steelers team with a new head coach. Pittsburgh let go of Mike Tomlin after 19 years with the organization and hired Mike McCarthy as his replacement.

Rodgers and McCarthy worked together in Green Bay from 2006 to 2018 and won Super Bowl XLV in the 2010 season. Now they’re reunited in Pittsburgh as the team tries to win back-to-back division titles for the first time since 2016 and 2017.

The quarterback room is crowded after the draft. Pittsburgh picked Penn State’s Drew Allar this year and Ohio State’s Will Howard last year, and they still have seven-year veteran Mason Rudolph on the roster.

Rodgers is a five-time All-Pro and was named to the Hall of Fame All-2010s team. He has thrown for 66,274 yards in his career, which puts him fifth all time behind former Packers teammate Brett Favre at 71,838 yards.

He needs 13 more touchdown passes to pass Peyton Manning’s 539 and move into third place on the all-time list.

The Steelers will start the 2026 season at home against the Atlanta Falcons on September 13.
