Roma extend unbeaten home run with commanding win over Fiorentina...
Roma strengthened their push for a Champions League spot with a 4-0 win over Fiorentina at Stadio Olimpico, extending their unbeaten home run in Serie A to 11 matches with eight wins and three draws.
A victory would put Roma one point off the top four after Juventus dropped points in a surprise draw with Verona the day before. Fiorentina, meanwhile, needed only a draw to confirm their safety.
As expected, Donyell Malen created Roma’s first real chance. The Dutch forward, who has scored 11 times since joining in January to lead the club’s charts, watched his deflected shot from 18 yards clip the top of the crossbar.
Niccolo Pisilli delivered the corner that followed, and Gianluca Mancini powered home a header to put Roma ahead in the 13th minute for his second Serie A goal this season.
Roma made it 2-0 only four minutes later, breaking quickly on the counter. Mario Hermoso teed up Wesley, who curled his fifth goal of the season into the bottom corner.
Fiorentina had let in more first-half goals in the opening 17 minutes than they had across their previous seven league games combined, where they’d conceded just one.
The visitors fell further behind 11 minutes before halftime when Manu Kone skipped past Nicolo Fagioli on the byline and pulled the ball back for Hermoso to score for the second home match in a row.
Fiorentina didn’t manage a shot until the 44th minute. At halftime, manager Paolo Vanoli made three changes, replacing Marin Pongracic, Jack Harrison, and Albert Gudmundsson with Pietro Comuzzo, Riccardo Braschi, and Fabiano Parisi.
Braschi nearly had an immediate impact, hitting the post two minutes after the restart. Soon after, another deflected effort from Donyell Malen struck the crossbar.

Malen did get his moment two minutes before the hour mark. His chipped cross found Niccolo Pisilli, who headed home for his second Serie A goal of the season.
Malen didn’t add a goal to his performance, but it was still a standout night for Roma. The Giallorossi have now won 19 of 22 Serie A matches when scoring first this season, with two draws and one loss.
The win lifts Roma back to fifth with three games left. Fiorentina slip to 16th, nine points clear of relegation, after just their second defeat in 12 league matches, during which they won five and drew five.
