Fiorentina draw with Sassuolo at the Franchi and remain nine points clear of relegation with four games left...
Fiorentina and Sassuolo played out a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Franchi in Serie A on Sunday afternoon, leaving the Viola still not mathematically safe from relegation to Serie B.
Fiorentina were missing first-choice strikers Moise Kean and Roberto Piccoli, so Albert Gudmundsson led the line with Jack Harrison and Manor Solomon supporting from the wings. Sassuolo were without Domenico Berardi and started a front three of Christian Volpato, Andrea Pinamonti and Armand Lauriente.
David De Gea made the first save of the match 10 minutes in after Sassuolo broke on the counter. Ismael Kone and Lauriente combined with a sharp one-two down the left before the Spaniard made a trademark stop with his legs to deny the sought-after Neroverdi midfielder.
Gudmundsson produced Fiorentina’s best chance of the early stages after 20 minutes, meeting Dodo’s cross from the right with a backheel flick that forced Stefano Turati to tip the awkward effort behind for a corner.
Ten minutes later, Harrison whipped in a cross from the Fiorentina right. Marked in the six-yard box, Gudmundsson couldn’t turn it in, and Solomon missed the target with the follow-up at the back post from close range.
Fiorentina wasted a golden chance when Dodo’s quick counter left them four-on-two inside the Sassuolo box. Solomon took the ball off teammate Luca Ranieri before teeing up Gudmundsson, who couldn’t finish past Turati.

The game opened up in the second half. Both sides had chances, but the closest came for Sassuolo when Pinamonti hit the post after a fine cross from Lauriente on the left.
It finished goalless, meaning Fiorentina must wait at least another week to secure Serie A safety for next season. The Viola sit nine points above Cremonese in the relegation zone with four games left in 2025-26.
Sunday’s result leaves Sassuolo 10th on 46 points, on course for a solid midtable finish.
