Fiorentina and Genoa each secured the point they needed to guarantee Serie A survival with two matches left to play.
Genoa were already effectively safe, while Fiorentina required one more result to be certain after a 4-0 loss to Roma. Moise Kean and Tariq Lamptey remained out for the Viola, but Roberto Piccoli was back on the bench, allowing 18-year-old Riccardo Braschi to make his first start. Genoa were without Junior Messias, Tommaso Baldanzi, Brooke Norton-Cuffy, Maxwel Cornet, and Sebastian Otoa.
In honor of Mother’s Day, both sides took the field wearing shirts displaying their mothers’ surnames on the back.
Vitinha tested David De Gea with a direct shot after a mistake from Dodo, and Fabiano Parisi’s claims for a penalty were waved away despite what looked like a clumsy challenge from Amorim.
Leo Ostigard went close twice with headers from set pieces before finally getting one on target, forcing De Gea into an awkward save from a free kick.
Fiorentina also threatened from a corner when Luca Ranieri’s looping header drifted just wide of the far post. At the other end, Caleb Ekuban’s effort was deflected over by Ranieri’s arm from close range.
From the corner that followed, David De Gea appeared to be dealing with a muscle problem, and a free kick was awarded after a foul on him as Vitinha’s header was cleared off the line.
Genoa spurned another big opportunity when a free kick was nodded back to the far post. Caleb Ekuban’s volley forced a save from De Gea, and Robin Gosens blocked Leo Ostigard’s follow-up from point-blank range.

Caleb Ekuban couldn’t capitalize when Marco Brescianini gave the ball away playing out from the back, but Fiorentina had a frantic chance of their own. Roberto Piccoli and Robin Gosens both tried to turn in after Brescianini headed the ball down, but in the scramble Fabiano Parisi’s shot was inadvertently deflected wide off teammate Gosens.
Dodo drew boos in stoppage time after going forward on the break only to play a soft, telegraphed pass from the right.

Both sides had secured safety, but there was little celebration at full time. The mood was more frustration and relief, accompanied by loud jeers from the stands.
