“Real Madrid C. F. would like to inform you that, following the events that took place during first-team training this morning, it has been decided to open disciplinary proceedings against our players Valverde and Tchouameni,” the club said in an official statement.


Any penalties will be made public after Real Madrid finishes its internal investigation.


According to several Spanish outlets on Thursday, Real Madrid midfielder and captain Valverde was taken to hospital following a collision with French teammate Tchouameni during training.


Spanish media reported that the Uruguay international was taken to a hospital near Real Madrid’s training ground for several stitches after suffering a facial injury, with coach Alvaro Arbeola accompanying him.


In a further statement, Madrid said: “After the tests carried out today on our player Valverde by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a cranioencephalic trauma.”




Valoverde is at home in good condition and will need to rest for 10 to 14 days, as indicated by medical protocols for this diagnosis,” the club said.


The same sources added that the two players first clashed during Wednesday’s training and again clashed on Thursday during and after the session.
