Victor Wembanyama dropped a career-high 52 points as the San Antonio Spurs edged past the Dallas Mavericks 112-111 on Wednesday.

The French superstar, whose previous best was a 50-point outing in 2024, took over at both ends of the floor to lift San Antonio to their sixth win of the season.

Wembanyama's masterclass featured a record-breaking first half, as he went into the break with 29 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks and two steals.

The 22-year-old finished with 52 points, 24 rebounds and eight blocks as San Antonio survived a furious second-half comeback to seal the win.

Wembanyama, supported by 21 points from Dylan Harper and 17 from Stephon Castle, hailed San Antonio's “relentless” approach.

“We did mostly the right thing, the most ambitious,” Wembanyama told ESPN. “It was just relentless. We wanted it more tonight.”

When asked to assess his own performance, Wembanyama replied: “It's very good because I'm trying to show the example.”

His teammate Harper was full of praise for Wembanyama's professionalism.

“Just the mentality, the dedication, the discipline he has every day that he comes into the gym with is unmatched,” Harper told ESPN.

For Dallas, Kyrie Irving topped the scoring charts with 29 points, including five three-pointers.

76ers Stay Perfect on the Road

Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid combined for 56 points as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Detroit Pistons 112-106 in a top-of-the-table Eastern Conference showdown.

Brown poured in 30 points, while Embiid added 26, as the Sixers claimed another impressive road win to improve to 8-1 and stay top of the standings, with Detroit (6-2) now in second.

Brown and Embiid spearheaded another balanced offensive display from Philadelphia, with all five starters reaching double figures.

LeBron James chipped in with a double-double of 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, while Tyrese Maxey knocked down three three-pointers on his way to 19 points.

Brown, who arrived from the Boston Celtics in the offseason, said he was still adapting to life with his new teammates.

“I'm still figuring it out,” Brown admitted, before paying tribute to 41-year-old teammate James.

“LeBron has been great,” Brown said. “To see what he's doing at his age makes sense for LeBron James, but for nobody else would it make sense.”

Philadelphia took the lead towards the end of the opening quarter and never relinquished it, stretching the advantage to 18 points before Detroit's late fightback.

Duncan Robinson paced the Pistons with 27 points, while Cade Cunningham chipped in with 26.

Knicks Demolish Bulls in Statement Win

The reigning champions New York Knicks delivered their most emphatic victory of the season, thrashing the Chicago Bulls 135-105 at Madison Square Garden.

After a sluggish start to the new campaign, the Knicks moved to 4-4 thanks to a scintillating 33-point outing from Jalen Brunson, who buried five three-pointers on 10-of-17 shooting from the field.

O.G. Anunoby chipped in with 18 points and Karl-Anthony Towns added 17, as New York surged to a lead of as many as 44 points midway through the third quarter.

The Oklahoma City Thunder cruised to a 124-116 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, powered by 42 points from reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

In Sacramento, Luka Doncic also put up a 40-point performance as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Kings 116-103.

Celtics Fend Off Bucks Fightback

In Boston, the Milwaukee Bucks came close to completing a huge comeback before going down 109-102 to the Celtics.

Paul George with 25 points and Derrick White with 24 led the way for Boston, who seemed in complete control after building a 20-point advantage early in the third quarter.

Milwaukee responded with a 38-point third quarter to flip the momentum, and the Bucks nudged ahead 96-95 with five minutes remaining.

Boston steadied themselves in the closing stages, with George and White guiding them home.
