Rising Wallaby Pietsch commits to Perth as 2027 World Cup race heats up

Western Force winger Dylan Pietsch has recommitted to the club and Australia until 2027, boosting his hopes of making the Wallabies squad for the home Rugby World Cup.

Pietsch re-signs with the Force for 2026-27 after scoring three tries in three games and playing a key role in the Wallabies’ 2025 season...

Western Force winger Dylan Pietsch has committed his future to both the club and the Wallabies, signing a two-year contract extension at 28 as he targets a place at the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

The deal ties him to the Force for the 2026 and 2027 Super Rugby Pacific seasons, building on a strong first year with the team in 2025.

The timing couldn’t be better, with Pietsch scoring twice to help the Force edge out his former club NSW Waratahs 20-17.

That marked his third straight game with a try, meaning he’s already surpassed the three tries he managed in an injury-hit 2025 campaign.

The 28-year-old, who switched to Super Rugby in 2022 after playing for Australia’s Sevens side at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, said he’s “incredibly stoked” to have secured another two years in Perth.

“Perth is home for my wife Ella and I, so it’s hard to imagine being anywhere else. I have so much belief in the direction of this club and where we are heading. Force and the fans have given me so much and I hope I can return the favour.

“Being in the position to represent my family, culture and country is something I take a lot of pride in, and it drives me to work as hard as I can to hopefully wear the gold jersey.”

Pietsch has quickly become one of the Wallabies’ most promising backs, but he faces stiff competition for a 2027 World Cup spot from fellow wingers including Force teammate Zac Lomax, Max Jorgensen, Harry Potter, and soon-to-arrive Mark Nawaqanitawase.

He featured three times for Australia last year, crossing for tries against both the Springboks and the British & Irish Lions, and also played a role in creating the Indigenous-inspired Wallabies jersey for the Lions tour.

Wiradjuri descendant Pietsch was described by Force coach Simon Cron as “a great man.”
