| Detmers shines as Angels snap skid with late win over Rangers |
Reid Detmers allowed just 1 hit and 1 run with 14 strikeouts against Texas, echoing his strong 2023 start vs the same team.
After a rough season, Reid Detmers delivered a gem against Texas with a career-high 14 strikeouts and a 4.57 ERA...
Los Angeles Angels left-hander Reid Detmers struck out a career-best 14 batters on Sunday against the Texas Rangers, surpassing his previous high of 12.
The 26-year-old did not issue a walk and gave up just one run on a solo homer from Jake Burger. He completed eight innings on 96 pitches, with 69 going for strikes.
It was also the fewest hits Detmers has allowed in a start since Aug. 8, 2023, when he gave up one hit over 7.1 innings against the same Rangers team.
The Illinois native entered Sunday struggling on the season with a 5.07 ERA, but after his dominant outing that mark improved to 4.57.
Even with a rough 2024 campaign, Detmers has already made history for the Angels. In his sixth major league start in 2022, the 22-year-old threw a no-hitter, becoming the youngest pitcher in franchise history to do so and the first Angels rookie since Bo Belinsky in 1962 to accomplish the feat.
The Angels came into the game with the worst record in baseball, but secured their 20th win of the season when Oswald Peraza drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
It was Peraza’s only hit of the night, and just the fourth hit for the Angels as a team.
