Ligue 1: Lyon Fall at Toulouse as Champions League Push Slips Away
| Toulouse edge Lyon in late drama to keep top-half finish in sight |
Lyon’s 2-1 defeat at Toulouse ended their winning streak and left them outside the Ligue 1 Champions League places with two games remaining.
Goals from Methalie and Kamanzi secured a 2-1 win for Toulouse over Lyon, with Donnum’s red card setting up a tense finish in a match that boosts Toulouse’s bid for a top-half finish...
Toulouse ended Lyon’s four-match winning streak with a 2-1 victory, putting a dent in Les Gones’ push for a top-three Ligue 1 finish.
With little left to play for and two games remaining, Toulouse still came out firing. They took the lead inside 10 minutes when Yann Gboho threaded a perfectly weighted, defence-splitting pass to Dayann Methalie, who finished calmly past Dominik Greif.
Lyon came close to equalizing soon after, with Afonso Moreira driving down the left before crossing for Khalis Merah in the box, but his header drifted wide of the right post.
Les Gones kept pushing for the equalizer as Endrick weaved his way into the area, only to see his side-footed effort hit the side netting.
Lyon’s pressure faded before the break, and Toulouse nearly made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time. Gboho sparked a counter and played in Santiago Hidalgo, but the pass was too heavy, forcing an awkward finish that crashed off the post.
Toulouse picked up where they left off after halftime, while Paulo Fonseca’s side struggled to get any real control of the game.
Even though the hosts had the majority of possession, they couldn’t turn it into clear chances, and that let Lyon back in with 20 minutes to go.
Corentin Tolisso rose highest to head home Endrick’s corner, pulling Lyon level. The goal was the Lyon captain’s 15th across all competitions, marking his best scoring season yet.

The scoreline stayed level for under 10 minutes before Toulouse went back in front in the 78th minute. Hidalgo’s clever reverse pass found the box, where Warren Kamanzi turned it home.
The game took another turn when the hosts were reduced to 10 men, as Aron Donnum picked up a second yellow card with 10 minutes plus stoppage time remaining, giving Lyon a late opening.
Fonseca’s side pushed for another equalizer, but Carles Martinez Novell’s men held firm to claim all three points. The win keeps Toulouse in contention for a top-half finish with one match left to play.
