Spain fought back to beat England in a thriller and stretch their remarkable unbeaten run...

Harry Kane’s missed penalty proved decisive as Spain edged England 3-2 in UEFA Nations League Group A3, extending the world champions’ unbeaten run inside 90 minutes to a record 39 matches.

Marc Guéhi handed Spain the lead inside two minutes after failing to spot Lamine Yamal closing in, and the teenage star made no mistake as he raced through on James Trafford’s goal.

Wembley threatened to turn hostile early on, as Ferran Torres thought he had doubled Spain’s lead before the 10-minute mark, only for the offside flag to spare England.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward timed his run better next time, forcing James Trafford to rush off his line to make a sharp stop.

With La Roja firmly on top, Torres wasted a third golden chance when he broke clear of England’s defence again, but fired wide after Trafford had once more narrowed the angle well.

That wastefulness proved costly, as England grew into the game before hitting Spain with a ruthless breakaway of their own.

There was irony in the slick one-two between Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon, of Real Madrid and Barcelona, that sent Gordon racing through to equalise.

Luis de la Fuente’s side looked rattled, and England capitalised as Kane’s stooping header deflected in off Marc Cucurella to give Thomas Tuchel’s men an unlikely half-time lead.

England carried that momentum into the second half, with Jarell Quansah missing a good chance for his first international goal before Aymeric Laporte’s superb last-ditch tackle denied Bukayo Saka.

Rodri’s timing was less impressive, and VAR correctly awarded a penalty for his clumsy foul on Bellingham, but Kane slipped as he struck it, hitting the crossbar before being penalised for a double touch.

The momentum swung again, Lamine Yamal missed a big chance to equalise, but a cheap giveaway from Nico O’Reilly allowed substitute Álex Baena to level moments later.
