Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland’s horror error allowed Goncalo Ramos to seal a 2-1 win for Portugal in UEFA Nations League Group A4, as the holders ended Stale Solbakken’s side’s 14-match unbeaten run on home soil.

Anyone hoping to see Erling Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo share the pitch for 90 minutes at Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadion was left disappointed when the latter started on the bench, though it took nothing away from a high-tempo contest from the outset.

Joao Neves headed over on his 22nd birthday in the 13th minute, before Haaland was denied by the legs of Diogo Costa moments later.

The Norway striker was left to rue that miss as Joao Felix calmly slotted Portugal ahead in the 17th minute from the edge of the box, scoring his ninth goal in his last nine internationals and building on his winner against Wales last Thursday.

Haaland should have equalised when Costa parried straight to him, but he was thwarted by a stunning diving block from Manchester City teammate Ruben Dias.

Norway kept pushing, with Costa saving two Haaland headers and Sander Berge nodding wide, as Portugal kept a first-half clean sheet for a sixth straight game.

Haaland would not be denied, though, equalising from close range six minutes into the second half to make it 65 goals in 57 Norway appearances and ensure he has now scored in 16 of his last 17 competitive internationals.

Nyland handed the initiative straight back to Portugal within three minutes, passing the ball directly to Ramos to lob his 12th international goal into an empty net.

The goalkeeper made another error five minutes later when Ramos beat him to a through ball and finished into the empty net, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

The contest turned increasingly frantic as full-time approached, but Portugal held on to top Group A4 after opening a Nations League campaign with back-to-back wins for the fourth time in five attempts.

The Selecao have now won seven of their last 10 games (D2, L1), including their first two under new boss Jorge Jesus. Norway, meanwhile, stay on three points from two matches, with this their ninth defeat in 12 meetings (W1, D2).
