Bundesliga: Five-Star Leipzig Demolish Hamburg As Polzin’s Side Stay Winless

Rampant RB Leipzig thrash Hamburg to set club record. 

RB Leipzig cruised to a record-breaking 5-0 thrashing of Hamburg, extending their perfect home run in the Bundesliga to seven games in a row.

Leipzig started fast and controlled possession from the off. Their pressure paid off in the 17th minute when Die Roten Bullen went ahead.  

Banzuzi broke free down the right and drilled a low ball across from the byline for Gomis. The striker met it first-time and squeezed it through the tiniest gap at Daniel Heuer Fernandes' near post.  

Hamburg have now gone 17 Bundesliga games without a clean sheet, and they made perfect opponents for Leipzig to bounce back after their 4-1 Champions League loss to Como in midweek.  

Approaching the half-hour, Leipzig made it 2-0. Nusa won the ball off Shafiq Nandja 40 yards out, drove forward, and saw his shot deflect off a recovering challenge and past Heuer Fernandes.  

Hamburg didn’t manage a single shot on target in a flat first-half showing, and Die Rothosen desperately needed to lift their game after the break.  

Hamburg almost halved the deficit early in the second period when Moller Wolfe latched onto a loose ball and forced a close-range save from Vandevoordt at the near post.

Around the 60-minute mark, Leipzig went close again. Gomis’ dinked cross found Nkunku, who connected with an overhead attempt that went just wide.

Leipzig were firmly in control late on, and a blistering five-minute burst saw them add three more goals to turn the win into a rout.  

First, Willi Orban nodded in Nusa’s far-post free-kick. Minutes later Nkunku made it 4-0, drilling into the bottom right corner from inside the area.  

Romulo Cardoso then pounced on a mistake from Warmed Omari, raced through, rounded Heuer Fernandes and slotted into the empty net.

The emphatic win lifts Leipzig up eight places to fourth for now. For Hamburg, the problems mount as they sit bottom after a third straight loss. Merlin Polzin’s side are still without a goal or a point this season.
