Barcelona ended their LaLiga campaign with a 3-1 win over Real Betis to complete a perfect home league season. It’s the first time they’ve achieved the feat since the 1959/60 season.

The champions were in control from the outset in their bid to become the first club in a 20-team LaLiga era to win every home game. Joao Cancelo caused problems early with two shots on target and a driving run that left Betis struggling to keep up.

The visitors thought they had pulled one back in the 23rd minute when Abde Ezzalzouli found the net. Their celebrations were cut short after VAR ruled the goal out for offside in the build-up.

Not long after, Raphinha curled a direct free-kick into the bottom corner, leaving goalkeeper Alvaro Valles completely wrong-footed.

Joan Garcia produced a flying save to deny Abde, which was Real Betis’ first shot on target, and Barcelona stayed on the front foot right up to halftime.

There wasn’t much goalmouth action in the early stages of the second half as the game neared the hour mark. Isco, introduced at halftime, was involved in most of Betis’ attacking moves as Manuel Pellegrini tried to shift the momentum.

The tempo slowed noticeably, and Barcelona began to look a bit sloppy with their play.

Barca are known for capitalizing on errors, and that’s exactly what happened when Héctor Bellerín’s poor back pass fell to Raphinha. The Brazilian finished with a low strike to extend the lead.

With 20 minutes remaining, the visitors were awarded a penalty after a contentious decision, and Isco converted to score his first goal of the season and give Betis hope.

Antony then came close to equalizing with a curling strike, but Cancelo responded with a right-footed shot from outside the box to restore Barcelona’s two-goal cushion.

The result marked Barcelona’s 12th win over Betis in the last 15 meetings between the sides. For Manuel Pellegrini, it was a 29th defeat against the Catalan club, extending his unwanted record.
