LaLiga: Real Madrid Beat Sevilla to Keep Unbeaten H2H Record Intact
Madrid extended their unbeaten run against Sevilla to 15 matches, with attention now turning to Arbeloa’s future at the club.
Sevilla’s three-game winning run ended against Madrid, though their safety was secured ahead of the final weekend...
Sevilla secured their LaLiga status even after losing 1-0 at home to Real Madrid. Results elsewhere meant relegation was no longer a threat, while the loss extended Madrid’s unbeaten head-to-head run against Sevilla to 15 matches.
With nothing left to play for, Real Madrid faced a Sevilla side in good form and still needing points. The hosts looked sharper early on, and Oso was a constant threat to the Madrid backline.
His second attempt forced Thibaut Courtois into a strong save, but Sevilla’s momentum was halted in the 15th minute. Kylian Mbappé brought down a cross and laid it off for Vinícius Júnior, who finished clinically past Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Madrid had not lost in 25 LaLiga games this season after scoring first, winning 23 of them. Going behind made Sevilla’s task much harder, and it took some of the energy out of their bright start.
Real Madrid took control of possession after going ahead, and Mbappé came close to doubling the lead when his curling shot drifted just wide of the far post before halftime.
The second half opened up, and Sevilla pushed hard for an equalizer. Akor Adams was unlucky to have the ball taken off him just before he could shoot from close range.

Sevilla’s push forward left space for Madrid on the counter. Franco Mastantuono struck the post with a curling effort, and Mbappé later had a goal ruled out for offside after breaking through. In the final 10 minutes Sevilla looked desperate, but Isaac Romero’s weak shot never troubled Courtois.
The loss ended Sevilla’s three-match winning run, but they stayed up regardless. Girona play Elche next weekend, and that result guarantees Sevilla can’t be caught.
With nothing left to play for, attention in Madrid has shifted to Álvaro Arbeloa’s future, with his departure at the end of the season looking likely.
