Elche push Girona closer to drop with win in final home game...
Elche snapped a three-game winless run with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Getafe. The result puts them two points above the relegation zone heading into the final weekend of the LaLiga season.
With survival on the line, Elche came out aggressive. Álvaro Rodríguez was denied from close range early on, but Victor Chust opened his account for the club in the 19th minute with a powerful strike to give the hosts the lead.
Pedro Bigas’ long throw was only half cleared to the former Real Madrid defender just outside Getafe’s penalty area. He struck a powerful shot that flew past David Soria into the top corner.
The goal gave Eder Sarabia’s side a lift, and their fight for survival got another boost six minutes before halftime when Getafe captain Djené Dakonam was sent off for a late challenge on Germán Valera.
Playing with an extra man in the second half, Elche pushed to add a second. Grady Diangana came closest just before the hour mark, dragging a low shot wide from a tight angle.
Elche couldn’t find a second goal late on, which kept the door open for Jose Bordalas’ side to grab an equalizer.
But Getafe, the second-lowest scoring team away from home in LaLiga this season, couldn’t create a chance to test Matías Dituro and had to leave Estadio Martínez Valero empty handed.

The win takes Sarabia’s team to 42 points. They now face Girona next weekend, and a result there would confirm Girona’s relegation.
Despite losing, Getafe stay in seventh place with a one-point cushion over the teams chasing them.
