Four-time champion Iga Swiatek advanced to the French Open second round on Monday after a dominant straight-sets win against Australian teenager Emerson Jones.
Swiatek played her first Grand Slam since teaming up with Rafael Nadal’s former coach Francisco Roig, and showed flashes of her best form in a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
The Pole aims to reclaim the Roland Garros title she won three years in a row from 2022 to 2024, before falling to Aryna Sabalenka in last year’s semifinals.
Swiatek will face Czech player Sara Bejlek on Wednesday for a spot in the last 32.
The third seed is among the favorites for the title after regaining form by reaching the Italian Open semifinals earlier this month.
Swiatek led 6-1, 3-0 before 17-year-old wildcard Jones fought back for respectability, holding serve for the first time in the fifth game of the second set.

An upset was never likely, and Swiatek closed out the win in just an hour on Court Philippe Chatrier.
“I'm just really happy to play on this court; the first matches are for getting used to conditions, I'm happy the way I played today, tactically,” said the 24-year-old, who has lost only two matches at Roland Garros in six years.
Her record at the tournament brings added pressure.
“Nothing comes easy. I feel with more titles it feels harder because everyone expects you to play perfectly, so you have to stay grounded and not take anything for granted.”
